Skin Resurfacing - Microdermabrasion and the CO2 Laser

The Parschauer Eye Center offers a facial skin resurfacing system at our referral center, Parschauer Eye Center. Under the care of our oculoplastic specialist, Dr. Jene A. Johnson, facial skin resurfacing is a safe effective outpatient procedure.

Microdermabrasion or "The California Peel" is a system used to remove tiny particles of lifeless skin. It is a process through which a controlled stream of aluminum oxide crystals are used to exfoliate the skin evenly across the face and neck. Microdermabrasion evens out the skins pigmentation and removes age spots and small scars, and softens the overall appearance of the skin tissue. Microdermabrasion freshens the skin, and unlike similar laser treatments, it is effective for all skin types. The procedure is painless, requires no anesthesia, and no long-term recovery time. A single procedure takes less than an hour to complete and can be repeated every 1 to 2 weeks depending on the condition. The procedure is effective immediately. The face may be slightly red for approximately 2 hours, but the patient may apply make-up immediately after the treatment.

CO2 Laser for facial wrinkles

Our fellowship trained lid specialist, Dr. Kellis, has extensive training in lid and facial cosmetic surgery. One of the most exciting areas of advancement in lid and facial cosmetic surgery in the last several years has been cosmetic laser resurfacing.

For minor lid scars and age spots

Dr. Kellis performs the above procedure, microdermabrasion. However, for deeper overall wrinkles and scars on the face, Dr. Kellis performs CO2 laser resurfacing. The laser tightens and strengthens the underlying facial collagen to smooth the face. Unlike the initial lasers of a few years ago, the CO2 laser causes less trauma and requires less time to recover from the procedure than previous lasers.

Cosmetic use of the CO2 laser is an outpatient procedure that can be performed in the office. The laser does cause the face to be red and sensitive for 3-4 weeks after the procedure. One must avoid sun exposure for 3 months after the procedure. The overall effects of the facial laser are remarkable and long lasting. Call now to determine if this treatment is right for you.
